I am getting a message from Windows Security Center with a critical system warning that my computer is under attack. When I downloaded “personal antivirus” it wants to charge me $ 69.95. Is this legit? I’m skerred!!!

DON’T DO IT! I just did that today and now I can’t get on youtube and i keep getting the same thing you’re getting. I haven’t bought it and neither should you. Instead, rely on Norton or some other NAME BRAND. I’ve never even heard of ‘personal antivirus” and I wish I could redo accepting it when it popped up on my screen.

It’s a scam ‘sham or however you want to put it.It’s a bogus site that tells you you have many viruses and email the money now and after that you really get a 2009 virus which ruins computers.Windows would never say hey send us 69.99. I would delete that one and update your anti virus program you have.
the warning you got was NOT from windows security center.that’s part of the scam.never,i repeat never agree to a download in response to fake pop ups saying you are infected.windows security center does not issue security warnings via a pop up.this is NOT LEGIT!. if you agreed to the download already then you are infected regardless if you pay.download malwarebytes and superantispyware free versions as soon as possible.you should turn off system restore temporarily and scan with both these programs.personal anti-virus is a rouge anti-malware program that infects computers.
Personal antivirus is maleware and you need to remove it as it leaves your computer vulnerable.
First thing you need to do is kill the process:
1)hit ctrl+alt+del and select the process tab
2)look for any processes called personalAV, PersonalAntivirus or PAV
3)kill those processes by clicking on them and clicking “End Process”
4)Warning may come up saying that this can make your computer unstable, you can ok this
Next delete the files
1)Browse to your “program files” directory. You are looking for a sub directory called personalAV, PersonalAntivirus or PAV.
2)Delete this subdirectory by clicking on it and pressing the delete key on the keyboard
3)If it asks for confirmation, then confirm it.
Next clean the registry (here be dragons, getting this wrong will royally f##k your computer so be careful)
1)start|run and enter “regedit” and select “ok”
2)press ctrl+F and enter “personalav”
3)delete any entry relating to “personav” press F3 to search for the next one
4) do the same searching for “personal antivirus”
Now, install spybot S&D available from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/… and run a scan. Make sure your virus definitions are up to date. If you don’t have antivirus, then get some. I use the free AVG from http://free.avg.com. Some people will say that AVG is no good, but it works for me.
Trust your antivirus. If your browser says you have infections, ignore it and run your own scans.
